Food is essential in fighting cancer. Lack of appetite or experience metallic taste in the mouth are common side effects from chemo. These side-effects can last up to 10 to 15days. My advise is to put your favorite foods aside because you don't want to dislike them. Best is to eat smaller portion and frequent.

#1: snacks that require no refrigeration : To inpatients, hospital menu is sufficient but there is always a wait time before the food arrives. Because you are given steroid, you will be hungry most of the time, it is absolutely necessary to have snacks near by to fend off hunger spells. I recommend the following : bananas - great potassium filler; peanut butter (on crackers) - protein and fiber; oranges - Vitamin C; rice crackers - fiber and calories; instant miso soup - iron and protein; seasoned seaweed - protein and fiber; cup noodles - sodium and carbs; mix-nuts - fiber, protein

#2: to counter metallic taste try these ingredients : by incorporating the following in your cooking : fresh squeezed lemon juice, sesame oil, sesame salad dressing, miso paste, or fresh ginger. They help open up your appetites and sometime mask the metallic taste, no harm trying right?

#3: keep up your calories in-take : you need to store up for every round of chemo - pasta, milkshake,  chocolate cake and potatoes are great way to store up carbs and calories! Remember, eat small portion and frequent.
